Veteran’s Day Prayers

1
Heavenly Father, even as in Christ you have brought us lasting peace, so in a Christless world you have let us raise armies and brought us through wars. On this special day we ask you to look on the veterans of those conflicts with mercy and grant them your rich blessings. Let them know that we appreciate the sacrifice they have made for all of us. Moreover, let them know the gospel of Jesus, and enlist them in the army of believers whose veterans enjoy eternal retirement benefits with you. We pray in Jesus’ name, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, through all eternity.

2
As long as the earth endures, O God, there will be wars and rumors of wars. We thank you for the soldiers and sailors who have risked their lives to fight our nations wars. When duty called, they answered. Without them, O Lord, we don;t know where we would be. Bless the people who are currently in uniform. Do not permit the temptations of military life to destroy the Christian faith of any of them. May the dangers they face keep them mindful of their need to rely upon you for their safety and well-being, in time and in eternity. We ask this in the name of your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.

3
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the selfless service of those who risked their very lives to protect our nation, preserve our freedoms and restore peace in the face of brutal aggressors. Grant relief to those who continue to experience emotional or physical agony from their days of combat. Give us a sense of responsibility for their welfare. Comfort those who mourn for loved ones who died while performing their duty to our country. Enlist in your church militant all who are in our military forces, that they may pledge eternally loyalty to Christ, our King, and know his peace. We ask this in his name, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, through all eternity.

4
Heavenly Father, today we remember the great sacrifices and selfless love that so many men and women gave to protect our country, to win peace, and to bring an end to war among nations. Lead all the rulers of this world to see the folly of way, to stop all strife and bloodshed, and to bring peace to all people in every country. Help us, moreover, to spread the Gospel that people everywhere may know the true peace that is found in Christ our Savior. We ask this in his name, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, through all eternity.

5
We thank you, Lord, for the men and women who have fought for freedom. They have made great sacrifices, so that we might enjoy the liberty we often take for granted. Make us always appreciate their work. Comfort the families who today are remembering a loved one lost in war. Heal the physical and emotional wounds of veterans confined to hospitals. Through the gospel draw them to Jesus, the physician of their souls. Let peace rule in our land, so that your church may continue to flourish. May more people also become soldiers in the army of the Lord and sing the victory song of the Lamb. We ask this in his name, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, through all eternity.
