Before Communion #24

24Dear Lord Jesus, you have invited us to come to your Supper. Today our congregation is offering us that opportunity. Create in us a renewed sense of our sinfulness. Take away any doubts about the real presence of your body and blood in the bread and wine. Make us worthy communicants. Renew our faith, join us and our fellow communicants closer together, and give us hearts that want to serve you.

Before Communion #23

23Dear Savior, we are going to eat and drink of your body and blood today. If we are distracted, help us concentrate on the supper you offer us. If our many sins make us feel unworthy, remind us that the sacrament offers full forgiveness, life, and salvation. If we have doubts about the true presence of your body and blood, dispel those doubts through the power of your gospel, and let us return home at peace.

Before Communion #22

22Lamb of God, we come to your supper conscious of our sins and confessing our guilt. Together with the bread and the wine in this sacrament you graciously give us your body which was offered on the cross and the very blood that spilled out of your veins. Strengthen and renew our faith as we eat and drink. May your gospel reassure us that our sins are forever gone. Jesus, you gave yourself for us. May we leave your table today determined to show you our love by giving ourselves to you, and serving you every day of our life.
